The NEDC: NE Development Commission has taken a significant step to improve the living conditions of vulnerable children in Yobe State. In a gesture of humanitarian support, NEDC has distributed blankets and nylon mats to 38,000 children in Tsangaya and Almajiri schools across 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
Speaking at the flagging off ceremony of the distribution exercise held at Tsangayan Malam Rabiu Mai Bataliya in Buni Yadi Gujba LGA, the MD/CEO of NEDC Mohammed G. Alkali, represented by the Yobe State Coordinator Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas said, “This initiative marks a pragmatic step toward addressing one of the most pressing educational challenges confronting the region, the issue of Out-of-School Children.”
He commended His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, for his tireless efforts in revolutionising education and other sectors in Yobe State and for his solid support toward the success of NEDC’s programmes and projects emphasising shared resilience and dedication required to overcome the challenges faced by Yobe State and the North East region.
While handing a completed solar boreholes at Tsangayan Malam Rabiu Mai Bataliya in Buni Yadi, the Coordinator said “The drilling of solar boreholes in pilot Tsangaya and Almajiri schools is particularly strategic. By investing in the schools, we are fostering sustainability and ensuring that Quranic and Islamic education is not only a religious asset but a bridge to broader academic and economic opportunities for our youth.”
The Coordinator of Tsangaya and Almajiri Schools of Yobe State AISEB Malam Usman Lawan and Yobe State Focal Person on Almajiri and Out of School Children Mustapha Moh’d Gujba Banker highlighted the NEDC’s intervention as a shining example of a productive partnerships driven by shared vision of mutual national development and human capital advancement.
This initiative is part of NEDC’s ongoing efforts to address the needs of vulnerable populations in North East region, particularly children susceptible to the challenges of poverty, displacement, and lack of access to basic amenities through the provision of clean water, sanitation, solar street lights, among other needs for a conducive teaching and learning environment.
The NEDC appreciates the support of Yobe State Government, partners and other stakeholders who have contributed to this effort. The Commission will continue to work tirelessly to always improve the lives of vulnerable children and communities in Yobe State and the broader North East region.
