The Joint Task Force North-West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, has addressed allegations regarding airstrikes mistakenly hitting civilian communities in Sokoto State.
The force clarified that its recent operations were directed at locations linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group, not civilian settlements.
Lt-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for the operation, issued a statement refuting claims that a military jet had bombed structures in Silame local government area. He reiterated that the military’s actions are guided by robust intelligence and reconnaissance to ensure precision and minimise harm to civilians.
“Our operations undergo thorough planning to focus exclusively on targets associated with terrorist activities,” Abdullahi explained. “The recent strikes in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were aimed at verified Lakurawa hideouts, underscoring the legitimacy of our actions.”
He further urged the public to rely on accurate information and avoid spreading unverified reports, which could foster unnecessary alarm. Abdullahi warned that terrorist groups might exploit misinformation to discredit military efforts and disrupt the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding civilian lives while maintaining pressure on criminal elements in the region.
