Federal workers have expressed disappointment as October 2026 salaries begin to hit their bank accounts without the long-awaited 40 per cent peculiar allowance, raising fresh concerns over the Federal Government’s response to labour’s demands ahead of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) October 27 deadline.

The development has dashed workers’ hopes of receiving the outstanding allowance in their October pay after months of anticipation and repeated calls for improved welfare.

With salary payments already underway, the omission has intensified pressure on the Federal Government to clarify when eligible public servants will begin receiving the benefit.

The controversy comes amid rising living costs and mounting economic pressures that have continued to erode workers’ purchasing power, making the expected allowance a major issue for affected employees.

The 40 per cent peculiar allowance is designed to improve the earnings of eligible public servants under the relevant consolidated salary structures. However, its implementation remains a source of concern for workers who expected the adjustment to reflect in their monthly salaries.

The NLC’s October 27 ultimatum has further raised the stakes, with the labour movement pressing the government to address outstanding demands before the deadline expires.

The commencement of salary payments without the allowance has now left workers uncertain about whether the government will act before the deadline.

For many affected public servants, the issue goes beyond official announcements and assurances. They want the allowance reflected in their earnings and a clear timeline for its implementation.

It remains unclear whether the Federal Government plans to make a separate payment, issue fresh implementation directives or explain why the allowance was excluded from the October salaries currently being paid.

With the deadline approaching, attention is shifting to the government’s next move and the NLC’s response if the outstanding demand remains unresolved.

Federal workers are now awaiting an official explanation as uncertainty over the 40 per cent peculiar allowance deepens.
