The Monday visit of the Chairman of Oredo Government Council, Dr. Tom Obaseki, to Ekiosa Market was a significant step towards the project’s completion and an assurance to the traders that the government is committed to rebuilding the market.
Dr. Obaseki’s visit was aimed at assessing the progress of the reconstruction work and evaluating the work done so far.
The reconstruction project is part of the government’s efforts to fulfil the plight of the traders who suffered losses in the fire incident that occurred in August 2019.
During the visit, Dr. Obaseki reiterated the council’s desire to construct a modern structure for the traders, which would provide easy access to the market.
He commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for the financial support provided to the council for the project.
The Chairman acknowledged that the council would not have been able to fund the reconstruction project on its own due to its massive cost.
Dr. Obaseki urged the traders to continue to trust the council’s commitment to complete the project and relocate them to the market as soon as possible. He also appreciated the traders’ confidence in the council and their willingness to relocate to temporary locations to allow the construction to take place.
Some traders, including Madam Ogiamien, expressed their appreciation for the council’s efforts and appealed for a speedy intervention.
They also hailed the Chairman’s mastery for heeding and embarking on the construction work.
