After nearly two decades of silence, the machines are turning again at the Okin Biscuits factory in Offa, Kwara State, signalling a major breakthrough in efforts to restore the once-popular Nigerian biscuit brand.
For the first time in 17 years, biscuits have emerged from one of the factory’s rehabilitated production lines, marking a significant moment in the company’s long-awaited return to the market.
The milestone was announced by the company in a post on its official Facebook page, monitored by Just Event Online TV, following a successful technical exercise carried out on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
However, the company clarified that the exercise was not yet a commercial product test. Instead, it was designed to confirm whether the long-abandoned production line could be restored to operational capacity after 17 years of inactivity.
The rehabilitation effort was particularly challenging, as several critical components of the facility—including cables, motors, frequency drives, contactors and other electronic equipment—had reportedly been stolen during the years the factory remained dormant.
Despite the setback, the company said the production line had been rebuilt and successfully brought back into operation.
“Can we bring this line, silent for 17 years, back to life? And we did,” the company declared.
The revival effort also received a major boost on the same day after the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company connected the factory to a 33kV Band A power supply, providing a crucial infrastructure backbone for the planned return to full production.
While celebrating the progress, Okin Biscuits acknowledged that the journey to full commercial operations is not yet complete. The company said additional testing, calibration and rehabilitation work must be concluded before large-scale production can begin.
It added that further efforts would also be required to recreate the distinctive taste and quality that made Okin Biscuits a familiar name among Nigerian consumers.
Still, the successful restart of the production line, the return of the ovens and the first batches of biscuits represent clear evidence that the revival project is gaining momentum.
“The machines are turning. The ovens are firing. The biscuits are beginning to roll out again,” the company said, expressing confidence that the brand’s return is now firmly on course.
Established in Kwara State in 1980, Okin Biscuits has long been associated with indigenous manufacturing and remains one of the memorable names in Nigeria’s biscuit industry.
After 17 years off the production floor, the iconic brand appears set for a comeback—one machine, one oven and one biscuit at a time.
