Edo State Deputy Governor, Chief Godwins Marvellous Omobayo,on Monday performed his first official assignment, when he represented Governor Godwin Obaseki at the groundbreaking ceremony of a one megawatt solar power panel, to improve electricity supply at the Nigerian Army Military Hospital in Benin.
The Deputy Governor said the project at the hospital was timely and should be
approached with all sense of seriousness to ensure it’s delivered on record time.
According to him, “the power project is important in the hospital because of the presence of a mortuary, health equipment as well as human resources as electricity is required to run 24/7”.
“I had cause to felicitate with my people in Edo North for the Sallah celebration as this is my first official assignment as Deputy Governor of the State”.
“I Am grateful to God Almighty for this. This is historic as God has perfected the plan that it will be in a healthcare facility and it means so much to me”.
“It’s a laudable project and as an administration, we need to seat down with the 18 Local Government Chairmen across the State to see how to positively design such a project and extend it across the State”.
“The Governor has a very good design for the State and has gone more than 70 percent in his execution. I am sure we will finish well as a government”.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Enaholo Ojiefo said the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has made healthcare a priority and it was not surprising embarking on this project.
He noted that the project is a collaborative effort between Edo State Government and the Military.
“The Commander of the Military Hospital approached us to appeal to the State Government to work and collaborate with them. We see our people coming, especially the pregnant women coming here for healthcare services and the Governor instructed us to ensure we support them with constant electricity”.
“By tomorrow the team will be here, followed by the panel. Also, installation will commence and we are looking at a month plus for the project to be completed and ready. We have one of such projects working in Eyaen already. The one you are coming to commission soon is the one megawatt at Aduwawa and this will be another one megawatt”.
“The next project will be in Irrua Specialist Hospital which uses over #37 million on diesel. The Governor has charged us to go after the major health establishment in the State to improve electricity and reduce cost of healthcare services”.
The Director of Military Hospital Benin, Brigadier General Olubunmi Aburime, said the hospital serves Edo State and environ, including military personnel and their families, noting that the heath facility was important to the people.
