The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has honoured Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, by unveiling a golden statue in her likeness during a ceremony held at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The event, which took place on Thursday, October 10, coincided with the Ooni’s birthday thanksgiving and celebration.
Oluremi Tinubu, who is an alumna of the university, arrived at the palace alongside other dignitaries for the official commissioning of ‘Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way,’ as well as the unveiling of the Grand Pavilion and Monument at the institution.
The golden statue is said to symbolize Tinubu’s commitment to national development and women’s empowerment.
The Ooni, in his address, commended the First Lady for her exceptional leadership, dedication to education, and efforts toward the empowerment of women in Nigeria. He also praised her role in promoting national unity.
The event drew notable figures from across the country, highlighting the strong ties between traditional leadership and national governance in celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s progress.
