The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has opened the way for formal proceedings on the August 15 governorship election, following the display of two separate petitions filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The petitions, both challenging the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, were pasted on the notice board at the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, September 7.
The development came after the Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, confirmed that petitions had been filed against the election result. Belemore had earlier said the required notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.
The tribunal secretariat was opened earlier in the day, with Belemore and other officials present as arrangements were made for the commencement of proceedings.
The APC and PDP are both contesting the result that returned Adeleke for another term as governor of the state.
The APC petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Governor Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
