Retired Brigadier General Adewinbi, pioneer former Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has called on the government to urgently shift attention to rural communities and address the growing infrastructure deficit across Osun State.
Adewinbi made the call shortly after casting his vote at Ede North Local Government Area during the Osun governorship election on Saturday.
The retired general lamented that government development efforts appeared overly concentrated in urban centres, leaving rural communities struggling with poor roads, inadequate healthcare facilities and other critical infrastructure.
He stressed that rural areas play a vital role in the state’s economic and social development and should not be neglected in government’s development plans.
According to him, the state’s education and health sectors are also in dire need of urgent intervention, while the lack of meaningful investment has continued to undermine development.
Adewinbi also expressed concern over reported incidents of violence involving supporters of opposition parties during the election, but urged voters not to be intimidated.
He called on the electorate to come out en masse and peacefully cast their ballots for candidates of their choice.
On security, the former Amotekun commander advocated stronger institutional support for the state security architecture, insisting that the Amotekun Corps must be properly organised and adequately funded.
He warned against turning the security outfit into a political instrument, stressing that its primary responsibility should remain the protection of lives and property across the state.
Adewinbi, who hails from Ede, has also featured prominently in Osun’s political space and is seeking to contest the Osun West Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
He maintained that sustainable development, security and investment in critical infrastructure must remain at the centre of governance if Osun is to unlock its full potential.
