Nigerian music star David Adedeji Adeleke has urged Hope Uzodimma to stay clear of any actions capable of undermining the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, insisting that the poll must not be turned into a battleground.
Davido made the call ahead of the August 15 governorship election, warning against political interference and urging all stakeholders to allow the people of Osun to freely determine their next governor.
The award-winning singer specifically appealed to Uzodimma, who is serving as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the election, to support a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process.
He stressed that the governorship contest should be conducted without intimidation, violence or undue political influence, saying the electorate must be allowed to exercise their democratic rights in a peaceful atmosphere.
Davido’s intervention comes amid growing political tension in Osun, where security agencies have already intensified preparations ahead of the election. The Nigeria Police Force recently deployed 15,000 personnel to the State following reports of political violence and rising security concerns.
The singer’s appeal is expected to further heighten national attention on the Osun governorship poll, widely regarded as one of the country’s most closely watched off-cycle elections. Political observers believe the outcome will serve as a major test of Nigeria’s commitment to free, fair and credible elections ahead of future electoral contests.
