The Governor of Abia State, Mr. Alex Otti, arrived in Benin City on Thursday to drum up support for Barr. Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Edo State.

Addressing party supporters, Otti urged them to vote for Akpata and remain vigilant to ensure their electoral will is not undermined.

Otti’s visit focused on galvanizing votes, particularly from the Ibo-speaking communities in Edo, for Akpata’s campaign. Despite acknowledging that the Labour Party may lack the resources to compete in terms of “guns and ammunition,” Otti emphasized the importance of people power in the upcoming election.

“We may not have all the guns and the ammunition, but we have the people,” Otti stated, drawing parallels to his own electoral victory in Abia State. He urged party supporters to stay at polling units on election day to protect their votes, highlighting that constant vigilance was key to securing a victory.

“The rat does not eat something when the owner is awake,” Otti quipped, underscoring the need for Edo State voters to safeguard their electoral process. “We will not allow any rat to steal our victory.”

Also speaking at the event, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Secretary of the Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee, encouraged Edo residents to vote exclusively for Akpata if they wanted to experience the benefits of good governance.

He pointed to the current developments in Abia State under Otti’s leadership as a template for what Edo could achieve with Akpata at the helm.

Akpata, while welcoming Otti, reiterated the significance of the visit, describing the Abia State governor’s presence as a boost to his campaign.

Drawing on a biblical reference, Akpata remarked, “Jesus Christ said, he didn’t come for the saved but for the lost,” signaling his commitment to converting undecided voters in the upcoming election.

With the Labour Party leaders’ rallying cries, the stage is set for a high-stakes election in Edo State.
