The Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria (PCVSN) has announced that it will hold its Sixth Convocation and Eighth Investiture Ceremony on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Abuja, with a renewed focus on producing specialist veterinary professionals to strengthen Nigeria’s livestock industry and food security.
The ceremony, scheduled to take place at the I. A. Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission (NUC), Aja Chukwu House, Maitama, Abuja, will induct a new set of Members and Fellows who have successfully completed rigorous postgraduate academic and clinical training.
Established by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), the PCVSN is mandated to provide structured postgraduate education for qualified veterinary surgeons, culminating in the award of the prestigious Fellowship Diploma, which confers the status of Consultant in various fields of veterinary specialisation.
This year’s convocation is themed “Building a Resilient and Globally Competitive Livestock Industry: The Strategic Role of Veterinary Specialists in Nigeria.”
The college said the theme reflects the urgent need to reposition Nigeria’s livestock sector to respond effectively to global trade demands, climate change, emerging animal diseases and food security challenges.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Chairman of the Convocation Planning Committee, Dr. David Ehizibolo, said the college remains committed to producing highly skilled veterinary specialists capable of driving innovation, policy formulation and sustainable development in animal health.
“PCVSN remains committed to producing specialists who can drive innovation and policy in animal health. This Convocation and Investiture is not just a celebration of academic success. It is a call to action for veterinary professionals to lead the transformation of our livestock industry into one that is resilient, profitable and globally respected,” he said.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Convocation Planning Committee and Secretary of the College, Dr. Helen Egoyibo Oputa-Chime, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of postgraduate veterinary education.
She noted that investing in new Fellows and Members represents an investment in the future of veterinary medicine, livestock development and Nigeria’s food systems.
The event is expected to attract top government officials, policymakers, veterinary professionals, academics, development partners and industry stakeholders from across the country.
Among the dignitaries expected are the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria Prof. Matthew Adamu, the Acting Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, as well as other distinguished guests.
The convocation will commence at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to highlight the critical role of veterinary specialists in promoting animal health, public health, livestock production, research and national economic development.
The announcement was jointly signed by Dr. David Ehizibolo, Chairman of the Convocation Planning Committee; Dr. Helen Egoyibo Oputa-Chime, Secretary of the College and Secretary of the Planning Committee; and Prof. J. F. Akinrinmade, Provost of the Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria.
