The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Samson Onilewaji, after he was allegedly caught with a suspected severed human hand, firearms and suspected stolen valuables during a stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the suspect was intercepted while travelling in an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six passengers.
According to the police, a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one point-of-sale (POS) terminal and five ATM cards from the suspect.
“During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, the suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, ‘M’, aged 21 years, was found in possession of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one POS terminal machine, and five ATM cards,” the statement read.
Police said the suspect confessed to recently robbing three people of their personal belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
The command added that efforts were underway to identify and contact the robbery victims so their recovered belongings could be returned.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper indicate that investigators are also working to establish the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, determine how the suspect came into possession of it and uncover its intended use.
The police said investigations are ongoing.
