The Inspectors-General of Police Special Tactical Squad (IGP’s STS) has arrested 34-years-old Ikechukwu Ofili who specializes in stealing bikes at Ajah axis of Lagos State.
The suspect who confessed that he has stolen 70 bikes so far said his main area of operation was Ajah in Lagos State and his point of sales in Sango-Otta axis of Ogun State.
He further revealed his operational mode as flagging down commercial motorcyclists, who mistakingly take him for a serious passenger.
Along the line, the suspect said, he would engage the rider in such a friendly manner that he (rider) would take him for a kind, generous and rare specie.
“Having established a friendly relationship with the bike man, I will throw a bait at him. Once he swallows it, that bike is gone”, the suspect confessed.
Confessing further on what he does to dispossess his victims of their source of livelihood, the suspect, who was busted and detained at the Aiyetoro-Itele office of STS in Ogun State, said he would then send the victim on an errand, just to make him leave his drink, during which he would pour a dose of Dynamogen sedative, in the drink.
“This will make him sleep off, an opportunity I am always waiting for, and will then bolt with the bike to Sango-Otta in Ogun State”, Ikechukwu revealed”.
The suspect, who resides at No. 21, Balogun Street, off Ijoko Road, Sango-Otta, gave people within his neighbourhood the impression that he was a Lagos State Taskforce operative, from where he used his connection to by the bikes during auctioning of confisticated motorcycles.
To further deceive people within the locality, the suspect would put on Army’s camouflage cap, vest and knicker, with which he rode the bikes, already affixed with for-sale stickers, which attracted potential buyers.
As clever as the buyers could think they were, Ikechukwu went as far as issuing fake purchasing receipts and particulars of the motorcycles to them.
Arrested alongside Ikechukwu were four suspected buyers, all from the same area of Ago-Adura in Sango. They are Elijah Ojole, 23; Paul Ngbede, 19, of Dayo Bello Street; and Usman Ocho, 24, of 14, Adebayo Ajala Street.
