The Edo State Police Command has presented cheques totaling ₦39,869,356.43 to beneficiaries of the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme.
The presentation, according to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor underscores the commitment of the police leadership to the welfare of officers, men and their families.
Daaor made this known while addressing beneficiaries, police officers and members of the media during the presentation ceremony in Edo State.
The Commissioner said the financial support was not merely a cheque presentation but a reaffirmation that the sacrifices of police personnel and their families would not be forgotten.
He particularly commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC(+), NPM, for his continued commitment to the welfare of police personnel and for ensuring that the sacrifices of officers are matched with meaningful welfare support.
“Today is a significant moment for the Edo State Police Command. We are not merely presenting cheques; we are reaffirming our commitment to the welfare of our personnel and their families,” Daaor said.
He explained that the ₦39.8 million being disbursed was meant to provide financial relief to deserving beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme.
According to him, although no financial compensation could replace a deceased loved one or completely erase the pain of injuries sustained in the line of duty, the support would help cushion the impact on affected families.
“While no amount of money can replace a lost loved one or erase the pain of injury, this support will, hopefully, provide some relief to the affected families and remind them that the Nigeria Police Force does not forget those who have sacrificed in its service,” the Commissioner stated.
Daaor urged the beneficiaries to accept the payment as a modest expression of appreciation for the sacrifices made by their loved ones in the service of the nation.
He also prayed for continued protection for police personnel and eternal rest for officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Commissioner’s remarks further reinforced the importance of welfare initiatives in supporting the families of police officers who make personal sacrifices in the discharge of their responsibilities.
