In a significant gesture of humanitarian aid, the Qatari government has announced that it will support over 1,000 orphans affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State, Nigeria. The announcement was made during a meeting between the Qatari ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Ali Bn Ghanem Al-Hajari, and the governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, at the Government House in Maiduguri.
Additionally, the Qatari government has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new primary school in Maiduguri, with the aim of providing a conducive learning environment for the local community. The ambassador was assisted by Governor Zulum in laying the foundation stone for the school, underscoring the commitment of the Qatari government to support the people of Borno.
This is not the first time the Qatari government has extended support to Borno State. In January, Governor Zulum had laid the foundation stone for the construction of an orphanage center, which is being built by the Qatar Charity Organisation.
During the courtesy call at the government house, Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude to the Qatari government for their continued support and assured them of providing an enabling environment for the implementation of these initiatives.
The Qatari ambassador was accompanied by his assistant, Mr. Abdullah Hilal Alnuimi, and the Country Director of Qatar Charity, Hamdi Abdou, during the visit.
