Nigerian music sensation, Rema, returned to his roots in Benin City this weekend, offering a heartfelt Thanksgiving at the Christ Embassy Church, where he donated a generous ₦105 million.

The donation was made in appreciation of the church’s support for his family during a difficult period in his childhood.

The singer, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, made the donation following his sold-out Homecoming event at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. The Thanksgiving service at Christ Embassy was filled with emotion as Rema recounted the pivotal role the church played in his family’s life after the loss of his father when he was just eight years old.

“When I was eight years old, when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned,” Rema shared during the service.
“All that we had was taken from us and we felt very alone, and I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, they opened a shop for my mum and that was what she managed to take care of us.”

In recognition of the church’s unwavering support, Rema pledged ₦40 million towards its infrastructure, ₦20 million to support the Rhapsody of Realities publication, ₦25 million for the development of the teens’ church, and an emotional ₦20 million to assist all the widows in attendance.
