Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set to remain in charge of Nigeria despite attracting strong interest from several African football nations, including Algeria, Angola and Côte d’Ivoire.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) Director General, Bukola Olopade, confirmed that Chelle is fully committed to the Super Eagles, dismissing speculation linking the Franco-Malian tactician with a move away from Nigeria.

Olopade disclosed that both parties had already reached an agreement on a renewed contract, with only the completion of the necessary documentation by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) remaining.

According to him, the renewal is merely a continuation of an existing agreement, stressing that all major issues had been resolved before the paperwork stage.

“Before contracts are signed on paper, you must have done a great deal of work to solidify all ends,” Olopade said.

“It’s a renewed contract, which means there’s an existing one. We have agreed, so I am sure that the Nigeria Football Federation will conclude the documentation as soon as possible.”

He also dismissed reports suggesting Chelle could be lured away by other African countries, insisting the coach remains focused on his assignment with the Super Eagles.

“Eric is a gentleman, so all the stories about other countries looking for him do not hold water. I’ve sat with him and I know he is not bothered by all those rumours,” Olopade added.
