Nigeria stormed into the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a ruthless display of attacking power, dismantling Mozambique 4–0 in a one-sided Round of 16 encounter that underlined their growing title credentials.

The Super Eagles needed just 20 minutes to assert control as Ademola Lookman broke the deadlock with a crisp, well-placed finish that set the tone for a dominant night. Five minutes later, Victor Osimhen took centre stage, doubling Nigeria’s advantage with a trademark strike before adding his second immediately after the restart in the 47th minute to extinguish any lingering Mozambican hope.

With the contest effectively settled, Nigeria continued to dictate proceedings, monopolising possession and dictating the tempo with confidence and composure. Akor Adams rounded off a flawless performance in the 75th minute, calmly converting to make it 4–0 and crown a comprehensive team effort.

Alex Iwobi orchestrated much of Nigeria’s attacking play from midfield, drawing plaudits for his vision, movement and control, as Mozambique struggled to cope with the Super Eagles’ intensity and precision.

Uptown Press, however, observed that the otherwise serene evening was briefly clouded by a visible disagreement between Osimhen and Lookman late in the second half. The exchange preceded Osimhen’s substitution and raised questions that will likely demand the attention of head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the next fixture.

Despite that momentary distraction, Nigeria’s performance was emphatic from start to finish, marked by confidence, clinical finishing and defensive solidity. The result sends the Super Eagles into the last eight in style, with momentum firmly on their side.
