As the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) commemorates its 70th anniversary, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to media practitioners across the nation.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Mr Emmanuel Bello, Governor Kefas lauded the pivotal role journalists have played in upholding democracy and fostering national unity. He described journalism as a noble profession that has been instrumental in shaping public discourse through diligent reportage and editorial analysis.
The Governor highlighted the significance of unbiased reporting and agenda-setting in governance, praising journalists for their unwavering commitment to social justice. He commended their courage and integrity in the face of challenges, acknowledging their efforts in holding leaders accountable and amplifying the voices of the people.
Reaffirming his commitment to press freedom, Dr Kefas assured journalists in Taraba State of a conducive environment to carry out their duties without fear of intimidation. He stressed that his administration remains open to engaging with the media to enhance transparency and good governance.
Governor Kefas further pledged continued support for media practitioners, promising investment in professional development and access to modern tools to enhance their work. He noted that the press serves as a vital bridge between the government and the people, underscoring the need for ethical journalism in safeguarding democracy.
As the NUJ marks this milestone, the Governor urged journalists to remain steadfast in their duty to inform, educate, and uphold the principles of truth and fairness in their reportage.
