Tragedy struck on Thursday when a helicopter carrying eight individuals, including six oil workers and two crew members, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Rivers State.
The helicopter, operated by Eastwind Aviation Logistics Services Limited, was en route to the OML 123 oil field to transport personnel to the Mimbo platform and a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.
The crash occurred around 11:40 a.m., prompting immediate search and rescue operations.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, addressing the nation on Thursday, directed the military and all relevant agencies to intensify rescue efforts at the crash site.
The helicopter, marked 5NBQG, went down under still-unknown circumstances, and authorities are working to determine the cause.
On Thursday, officials overseeing the recovery confirmed the retrieval of three bodies from the wreckage, with search operations on-going for the remaining five individuals.
