Xenophobia: Edo Govt pledges support for SA returnees

The Edo State Government through the Edo State Migration Agency, has pledged the State Government’s commitments to the welfare of Edo indigenes returning from South Africa (SA) following the recent xenophobic attacks in that Country.
The Director-General of the Edo State Migration Agency, Hon. Lucky Agazuma, disclosed this during an interview with journalists at the Murtala International Airport in Lagos State, where he pledged the Agency’s preparedness to welcome the returnees with dignity and to provide them with the necessary care.
Hon. Agazuma expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, for his compassionate leadership, swift intervention, and unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of Edo people, both at home and in the diaspora. According to him, the Governor’s prompt response to the plight of the affected indigenes reflects his people-centred approach to governance and reassured Edo citizens that they will always have the support of their government, regardless of where they reside.
The Director-General reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to ensuring the protection, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration of the returnees in line with the Sen. Okpebholo’s vision of a caring, inclusive, and people-oriented administration. While addressing the returnees, he stated, “We are waiting to receive you. You are welcome home, and we remain committed to supporting your reintegration and helping you rebuild your lives.”
Hon. Agazuma further assured that the Agency would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the returnees are successfully reintegrated into society and provided with opportunities to rebuild their livelihoods.
