You Cannot Finish $1 Billion in a Lifetime

Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has got people talking online after explaining why most people don’t really understand how big a billion dollars is.

In a recent interview, he said the human brain just can’t fully grasp such huge numbers, which is why people throw around billions without really thinking about it.

“You cannot finish one billion dollars,” he said.
“I’m telling you this because people talk about 10 billion, 12 billion, 13 billion… and you don’t really get it. It’s not your fault. Our brains just didn’t evolve to understand numbers this big.”

He gave an example using time:
One million seconds is about 11 days.
One billion seconds? That’s 37 years.That shows the difference between a million and a billion.

He also explained using luxury spending:
“If you had a billion dollars, what would you buy? A private jet is $30 million—you’d still have $970 million left. Buy four private jets, you’d still have $880 million. You could spend on gold chains, Rolls Royces, Ferraris… and you’d still have plenty of money left.”
