Imo State indigenes resident in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, under the aegis of the Forum of Imo Democrats (FIMD), have thrown their weight behind the Action Democratic Party (ADP) senatorial candidate for Imo North, Attorney Charles Onyirimba, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made its position known in a statement issued after its enlarged meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
According to the forum, its members resolved to work collectively towards promoting what they described as democratic leadership and effective representation in Imo North Senatorial District and Imo State.
The meeting brought together Imo indigenes drawn from the academia, media, political parties, religious organisations, traditional institutions and the private sector.
The group described Onyirimba’s entry into the Imo North senatorial contest as a significant development in the political landscape of Okigwe Zone, saying his campaign had opened discussions around purposeful representation and development.
FIMD commended the legal practitioner’s reported commitment to the progress of Imo State and his advocacy for good governance, expressing the view that his experience could translate into legislative interventions for communities across the senatorial district.
The forum further said Onyirimba, if elected, would have the opportunity to sponsor bills and contribute to legislation aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and addressing developmental challenges affecting constituents.
The group also highlighted the six local government areas that make up Imo North Senatorial District, commonly known as Okigwe Zone, and pledged to mobilise its members and supporters in the FCT ahead of the 2027 election.
“Having shown enormous capacity and a track record of excellence as an erudite lawyer and statesman, there are no doubts that Attorney Charles Onyirimba would provide efficient, effective and responsive representation,” the statement said.
The forum said its members would continue to engage Imo citizens in the FCT on the importance of participating in the electoral process and urged eligible voters to use their Permanent Voter Cards responsibly.
The group also called on Imo voters to scrutinise candidates and elect individuals they consider capable of providing effective representation at the various levels of government.
Onyirimba is currently campaigning for the Imo North senatorial seat on the ADP platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
