The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is reportedly facing internal tensions as key stakeholders remain divided over possible presidential ticket combinations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to emerging political discussions within the party, two major camps have formed around potential power alignments one supporting a Peter Obi/Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso pairing, while another is pushing for an Atiku Abubakar-led ticket with either Seyi Makinde or Rotimi Amaechi as running mate.
The development comes as the opposition party continues to grapple with legal and structural challenges despite gaining temporary relief to participate in the 2027 elections following a Supreme Court ruling.
Party insiders say the ADC is struggling to manage the ambitions of several political heavyweights who have recently aligned with the party, including former governors and presidential candidates from different political blocs.
Each of the leading figures reportedly enjoys strong regional backing: Obi maintains influence among youth and in the South-East, Atiku commands national political experience and northern networks, Kwankwaso retains strong support in Kano and parts of the North-West, while Amaechi and Makinde are seen as influential southern power brokers.
Observers warn that the lack of consensus could create deep fractures within the party if not carefully managed before the primaries, with fears that dissatisfied aspirants may defect or form parallel alliances.
Party stakeholders are reportedly exploring options such as consensus arrangements or power-sharing models to avoid post-primary disputes and strengthen opposition unity ahead of 2027.
For now, the ADC leadership has not officially confirmed any preferred ticket, as consultations continue among major political actors.
