Amid loud cheers and a show of party strength, Senator Neda Imasuen on Saturday formally declared his bid for re-election to the Senate, urging leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to back his return and support his push to become a ranking senator.
Addressing party leaders and stakeholders in Edo South, the lawmaker said his decision to seek another term is driven by the need to consolidate on what he described as “real, measurable improvements” recorded across the district.
Imasuen presented a detailed 30-month scorecard, spotlighting achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, empowerment and legislative service. He cited scholarship schemes and training programmes in ICT, agriculture and vocational skills for youths and women, alongside community-based healthcare interventions, including medical outreaches and maternal support initiatives.
On infrastructure, the senator pointed to road projects in Ovia North East and Orhionmwon local government areas, as well as the installation of solar-powered streetlights in over 50 communities. He also highlighted the distribution of empowerment tools and facilitation of federal employment opportunities for constituents.
In the legislative arena, Imasuen underlined his role in sponsoring key bills, notably the proposed Federal College of Education, Abudu, while also referencing his position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions where over forty-four public petitions have been attended to.
He reaffirmed his commitment to people-centred representation anchored on human capital development and local economic growth, while outlining plans to scale up rural electrification, potable water supply and economic empowerment initiatives if re-elected.
Making a direct appeal to party leaders, the senator stressed the urgency of supporting his bid to attain ranking status in the Senate, arguing that “there is no room for learners,” and that experience remains critical to attracting greater development to Edo South.
Backing his position, former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr Pius Odubu, urged party faithful to avoid discrimination among aspirants and rally behind whoever emerges victorious.
Other speakers, echoed the call for unity and support for Imasuen, while former Commissioner for Transportation, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, described the senator as a unifier aligned with other aspirants, urging leaders to grant him the party ticket.
Speaking with journalists after the declaration, Imasuen doubled down on his call for support, insisting that his legislative experience positions him to deliver more effectively for Edo South.
The event drew prominent APC leaders, members of the Edo State House of Assembly, former Edo South Senator, Matthew Utoghide, former Oredo Council boss Osaro Obazee, and other stakeholders from across the senatorial district.
