The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared that the party will end poverty and insecurity in Nigeria if elected in the 2027 presidential election.
Adebayo made the declaration while featuring on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Personality Interview Series in Abuja on Sunday.
The SDP candidate said he was grateful to the party for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading its campaign, describing poverty and insecurity as the two major challenges confronting Nigeria.
According to him, his 2027 presidential ambition is not targeted at any individual politician but at the problems bedevilling the country.
“My contest is against poverty, against insecurity, against bad government, and that is my message to the Nigerian people,” he said.
Adebayo listed poor economic management, unemployment, inadequate electricity supply and the high cost of education among other challenges requiring urgent solutions.
He said the SDP’s campaign would be built around its manifesto, “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity,” which he said would be communicated to Nigerians across the country.
The presidential candidate said the party was better prepared for the 2027 election than ever before, but stressed that Nigerians must also be prepared to take ownership of the democratic process.
He identified the country’s 16,874 polling units as critical to determining the outcome of the election, promising that the SDP would deploy agents to all polling units to protect its votes.
Adebayo also disclosed that the party’s manifesto would be translated into 15 Nigerian languages and made available in print, audio and visual formats before election day.
He argued that the SDP’s political message was rooted in the aspirations Nigerians demonstrated during the historic June 12, 1993 election, saying the manifesto had now been refined to address contemporary challenges.
Adebayo further rejected claims of individual ownership of the SDP, insisting that the party belongs to Nigerians.
“SDP is a national party formed by Nigeria for all Nigerians, and if given the opportunity, has the solution to our problems in the country,” he said.
He maintained that the success of the party’s 2027 campaign would ultimately depend on its ability to convince Nigerians that it possesses the competence, character and integrity required to deliver on its promises.
The declaration places poverty reduction and insecurity at the centre of the SDP’s emerging 2027 presidential campaign as the party seeks to position itself as an alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties.
