Hon. Abba Aliyu Tilde, Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has resigned from his position, citing a breakdown in mutual respect, communication and trust in his working relationship with the lawmaker.
Tilde announced his resignation in a letter dated September 6, 2026, stating that the decision took immediate effect.
The resignation comes amid renewed controversy surrounding social media allegations linking Senator Buba to banditry and terrorism. The senator has repeatedly rejected the allegations as false, politically motivated and part of an orchestrated campaign to damage his reputation.
The latest allegations followed the circulation of videos and claims purporting to show suspected bandit kingpins visiting the senator’s residence.
Senator Buba has dismissed the materials as manipulated and has reportedly initiated legal action against individuals allegedly involved in circulating the claims.
However, Tilde’s resignation letter does not accuse Senator Buba of involvement in banditry or terrorism and does not link his decision to the allegations currently circulating online.
Instead, the former aide focused squarely on what he described as a deteriorating professional relationship with the senator.
Tilde specifically cited a recent visit by Senator Buba to his ward, where the lawmaker reportedly held a meeting with residents without informing him beforehand.
He said the incident was particularly troubling given his position and relationship with people in the ward.
“Given my position and my connection to the people of the ward, I found this deeply disrespectful and hurtful. I believe that, at the very least, I deserved to be informed and carried along,” he wrote.
According to Tilde, the incident was not isolated but part of a pattern of experiences that had gradually strained his relationship with the senator and made it increasingly difficult for him to perform his duties effectively.
“I cannot continue in a position where I feel that there is little regard for my contributions or for the relationship between us,” he stated.
Tilde maintained that relationships within political and public service institutions require effective communication, mutual respect and recognition of each person’s responsibilities.
“I believe any working relationship, particularly one involving political and public service, should be founded on mutual respect, communication, trust, and recognition of one another’s roles,” he stated.
He said he no longer believed those principles existed in his relationship with Senator Buba.
“Unfortunately, I no longer feel that these principles exist in our working relationship,” he added.
The former aide described his resignation as the most honourable decision available to him after reflecting on the circumstances surrounding his continued service.
He said he was leaving with a clear conscience, having done his best in the discharge of his official responsibilities.
Tilde also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve as Senior Legislative Aide to the Bauchi South senator and wished Senator Buba success in his future endeavours.
His resignation effectively ends his tenure as a senior member of the senator’s legislative support team.
While the timing of the resignation is likely to attract scrutiny because of the ongoing allegations against Senator Buba, Tilde’s letter, as presented, establishes no connection between his departure and the allegations against the senator.
The stated reasons for his resignation remain centred on his concerns over communication, mutual respect, professional recognition and trust in his working relationship with Senator Shehu Buba.
