The National Association of Seadogs, (NAS), also known as Pyrates Confraternity at the weekend donated learning materials worth thousands of naira to Our Lady of Fatima College, Auchi in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo.
Mr Dirisu Odion, the Capoon Hybrid Deck, Edo North branch who presented the writing materials to the school authority said the donation was aimed at developing education and to meet the SDG-4 on quality education.
Odion said the distribution of learning materials marks the commencement of the “Weekend Service to Humanity”, adding that the event commemorate the 70th anniversary of the association.
“The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confratenity), we are here at Our Lady of Fatima College, Auchi, Edo to donate text books to the school library and execise books to students and teachers of this great school.
“Our founding in 1952 by Prof Wole Soyinka, Ralph Opara, Nathaniel Oyelola, Pius Oleghe, Olumuyiwa Awe, Ikpehare Aig-Imoukhuede and Sylvsnus Egbuche remains a watershed in history that we must continue to raise in value for community and humanity.
“70 years of service to humanity is another vivid demonstration of our abiding commitment to lend hand to mankind.
“It mirrors the pyrate’s fidelity to the second rudder blade-all before self, which places people at the centre of our activities for humanistic ideals.
“Since 1952, our contribution to natiomal development through various advocacy and humanitarian projects striving for attainment of a just society continue to inspire hope in communities across five continents and countries where our chapter exist.
“This many beneficiaries of the over 50 NAS medical mission since 2010 mainly disadvantaged and living in rural communities are evidence of the far-reaching interventions we introduced in the lealth sector” he said.
Odion said pyrates remain dedicated to its founding principles to always champion worthy causes for the community of humanity.
According to him, the weekend of service to humanity provides an avenue to demonstrate who we are, another challenge! we individually and collectively braced to take on as proof of those enduring and endearing words of our founders
“We embark worldwide on various causes focusing on specific UN Sustainable Development Goals SDG 3-Good Health/Well-being, SDG 4-Quality Education, SDG 10-Reduced Inequalities and SDG 16-Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
“Service to humanity continues to inspire Pyrates. We aim to rededicate ourselves to increased significant achievement by answering in sincerity and action the founding humanistic question: what can you do to raise that community to the highest level of fulfilment.
