Edo PDP inaugurates Deputy Director-General Campaign Council on Religious Organizations and Cultural Affairs

Benin City – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday inaugurated Osagie Erhunmwunse as the Deputy Director-General of its campaign council on religious organizations and cultural affairs.
The ceremony, which took place in Benin City, was marked by calls for unity and massive support for the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and his running mate, Barrister Osarodion Ogie.
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of PDP in Edo State, emphasized the critical role of the campaign council on religious organizations and cultural affairs. He noted that its members engage with the populace almost daily, making their contribution vital to the party’s success.
“We enjoin you to join hands with the PDP to reduce the suffering in the land by voting our candidates, Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie,” Dr. Aziegbemi urged the attendees, underscoring the importance of collective effort to alleviate the hardships brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
Also speaking, Hon. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen, the Director-General of the PDP campaign council for the upcoming September 21, 2024, governorship election, delivered a pointed critique of the APC.
He encouraged voters to reject the APC candidate, arguing that their governance has led to increased poverty and misery.
“Anyone that is voting for APC is voting for more poverty and misery. This is because they don’t have any plan for the government and programme for the people,” he stated.
Hon. Iduoriyekemwen rallied the audience to unite in a collective effort to drive away poverty from Edo State, framing the election as a pivotal moment for the state’s future.
In his acceptance speech, Osagie Erhunmwunse expressed gratitude for his appointment, viewing it as a testament to the PDP’s recognition of the diverse religious landscape in Edo State.
He praised Dr. Asue Ighodalo and Barrister Osarodion Ogie as competent and trusted leaders. “These men are no strangers to the economic and political challenges of Edo State. Selling these candidates fills us with enthusiasm because we are going to sell a product we totally believe in,” Erhunmwunse remarked.
He further articulated his sense of purpose and readiness as the campaign season approaches, highlighting the importance of religious and cultural affairs in the societal fabric.
“Together, we carry the torch of progress and inclusivity, recognizing the vital role that religious and cultural affairs play in the fabric of society,” he said.
Adding to the strategic efforts, Mr. Igbogo Peter, Edo PDP Head of Strategy, introduced a comprehensive training program for the campaign team.

He told Uptown Press in an interview that, a two-hundred-member team, drawn from the 192 wards in the State, will be adequately trained and equipped to canvass for votes.
“The essence of the training is to ensure that the people selected to campaign for the party are well-prepared and effective,” Mr. Peter explained.
