The Edo State Government through its Tourism Agency has pledged collaboration with the Niger Delta Festival of Arts and Culture (NIDFEST) as part of commitments to advancing tourism development through strategic partnerships and cultural initiatives aimed at positioning the State as a preferred global tourism destination.
The Director General of the Edo State Tourism Agency, Lady Vivian Elabor made the pledge while playing host to delegates of NIDFEST, who paid to the Agency at its Conference Room in Benin City.
The Director General of the Agency while emphasizing the importance of leveraging the State’s rich cultural heritage and historical landmarks, noted that Edo State’s deeply preserved history remains evident today, making it a prime attraction for both local and international tourists.
Lady Elabor further stressed the need to harness technology to raise awareness of the State’s tourist sites. She explained that the approach would not only increase visibility, but also boost tourism-driven revenue, thereby reducing dependence on oil and gas.
Earlier, the Director General of NIDFEST and Managing Director of PJ Skills and The Crew Ltd, Comrade Peter John Etulu Akpan, explained that the engagement was intended to explore collaborative opportunities with the Edo State Tourism Agency. He expressed confidence in Edo State’s vast cultural and tourism potentials, emphasizing the diverse attractions that could be showcased globally.
Comrade Akpan described NIDFEST as a platform aimed at promoting undiscovered tourist sites, branding them for international recognition, and attracting tourists and investors. He highlighted the initiative’s role in empowering youth and women across the Niger Delta through training and capacity-building programmes.
The NIDFEST Director General added that the Festival would foster peace, unity, and cultural integration within the region. He assured prospective attendees that the event, scheduled for October 2026, would be successful with the support of the Edo State Government.
In their remarks, representative of the Director General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency, Dr. Lauretta Oko-Ogboro, and Director of Administration, Mr. Jackson Omoragbon; as well as the representative of Data-Egbured, Ubare Det S. Ales, expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the Agency, and pledged support to ensure the success of the programme.
The engagement concluded with a mutual commitment to collaborate effectively in showcasing Edo State’s tourism potentials and ensuring the successful hosting of the NIDFEST event.
