APPMEN Unveils 2026 National Conference to Unite Media Owners, Content Creators in Abuja

The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishments of Nigeria (APPMEN) has announced plans to host a landmark one-day national conference aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s private media and digital content industry as a catalyst for national development, economic growth and responsible journalism.

The conference, themed “APPMEN: Voice, Vision, Purpose,” is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju Hall, beside the TETFUND Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the organisers, the event will bring together media proprietors, digital content creators, policymakers, government officials, regulators, corporate organisations, development partners and media entrepreneurs from across the country to chart a new course for Nigeria’s evolving media landscape.

The association said the conference is designed to strengthen professionalism, promote strategic partnerships and position private media as a key driver of job creation, ethical storytelling and democratic governance.

The organisers noted that the gathering comes at a time when digital influence continues to reshape information dissemination, stressing that collaboration, training and institutional support remain critical to building a resilient and credible media ecosystem.

The conference will feature two major sessions.

The morning session will focus on policy dialogue and capacity building, with participants taking part in masterclasses facilitated by legal experts, media scholars and industry practitioners. It will also include a high-level panel discussion on “The Future of Nigerian Media — Policy, Platforms and Purpose,” interactive question-and-answer sessions, stakeholder commitments and the adoption of a communiqué.

The evening session will transition into a gala night and cocktail designed to celebrate outstanding contributions to media and national development. Activities lined up include an investiture ceremony, awards presentation to distinguished Nigerians, the unveiling of ambassadors for “The Leadership We Want” campaign and the official presentation of the maiden edition of APPMEN Magazine.

APPMEN also used the opportunity to call on the Federal Government, state governments, regulatory agencies, corporate organisations and development institutions to partner with the association in advancing media development initiatives across Nigeria.

The association said sponsorship of the conference would support media capacity building, creator training, legal aid, journalists’ safety programmes and initiatives aimed at amplifying Nigerian stories on the global stage.

Describing the conference as more than a routine industry gathering, APPMEN said the event represents a national movement to build a media sector that is ethical, profitable and patriotic.

The statement was jointly signed by Felix Onuah, APPMEN FCT Council Coordinator and Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, and Chief Precious Enebuse, APPMEN National Coordinator.

APPMEN is the umbrella body representing owners and operators of private media platforms across Nigeria, with a mandate to promote professionalism, defend press freedom, strengthen institutional capacity and uphold the role of private media as a vital pillar of democracy and national development.
