Adeleke Alleges Transfer of 60 Accord Leaders to Abuja, Nasarawa Prisons Ahead of Osun Governorship Poll

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that more than 60 leaders of the Accord Party were transferred to correctional facilities in Abuja and Nasarawa despite the existence of federal courts and custodial centres within Osun State.

Adeleke made the allegation on Thursday while addressing a peace summit convened by political leaders in Osogbo ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

According to a statement shared on his X page, the governor condemned what he described as the relocation of the detained political figures outside the state, insisting there was no justification for moving them when federal courts and correctional facilities are available in Osun.

He also alleged that government officials and his supporters have come under sustained attacks over the past three months, claiming they have been subjected to intimidation and harassment in the build-up to the governorship election.

The governor urged political actors and security agencies to uphold peace, fairness and the rule of law throughout the electoral process, stressing the need to guarantee a credible and violence-free poll.

Adeleke’s remarks came as political stakeholders gathered at the peace summit to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful conduct before, during and after the election, amid heightened political activities across the state.

The allegations have yet to receive an official response from the relevant federal authorities at the time of filing this report.
