The Super Eagles managed to secure their spot in the knockout stage of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Guinea Bissau on Monday night.
It was a closely contested match, with Nigeria creating several opportunities but failing to convert them. Ultimately, a counterattack led by Ola Aina resulted in an own goal by Guinea Bissau’s Opa Sanganté, giving Nigeria the lead.
In the second half, Nigeria continued to push for additional goals, but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Despite this, the team’s victory secured their place in the round of 16 with 7 points.
After the match, Guinea Bissau coach Baciro Condé expressed disappointment with the team’s performance, while Nigeria coach José Peseiro stressed the importance of being clinical in front of goal in the upcoming knockout matches.
Information available to Uptown Press has it that the Super Eagles will now face the third best team in Group C in the last 16. That is, Cameroon or Mali.
