Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has been spotted alongside prominent Nigerian figures, including Seyi Tinubu, Dino Melaye and Ben Murray-Bruce, at a high-profile wedding celebration in Marbella, Spain.
The gathering, held at La Cabane, a Dolce & Gabbana-designed beach club in the Málaga area, was part of festivities ahead of the wedding of Saraya Danjuma, daughter of retired General Theophilus Danjuma, and Bawa Salaka.
Videos circulating online on Saturday showed Aisha Buhari relaxing with other women dressed in white, while fruit displays and the resort setting provided the backdrop for the gathering.
Other notable Nigerians seen at the event included former senator Dino Melaye, businessman and former senator Ben Murray-Bruce, socialite Terry Waya and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
The gathering has triggered intense reactions on social media, particularly because some of the personalities seen together are publicly associated with different political camps.
Melaye has been associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Seyi Tinubu is the son of President Bola Tinubu, whose administration is led by the All Progressives Congress (APC). The appearance of figures from different political backgrounds at the same private social event has prompted renewed discussion about the distinction between Nigeria’s public political battles and the private relationships of members of the elite.
For some Nigerians, however, the images offered an uncomfortable contrast between the luxury enjoyed by prominent Nigerians abroad and the economic difficulties confronting many citizens at home. Social media reactions ranged from criticism of the lavish setting to comments questioning whether political differences are as deep among the political class as they appear during public contests.
Others argued that attendance at a private wedding-related gathering should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a political alliance or coordinated political activity.
The Marbella event comes more than a year after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2025, with Aisha having maintained a relatively low public profile since leaving office as First Lady in 2023.
The wedding festivities have nevertheless brought together a broad cross-section of Nigeria’s political, business and social elite, with the Marbella gathering providing another striking glimpse of the close social networks that exist across otherwise competing political circles.
