A man identified as Samuel Ogbonna has explained his decision to cancel his planned wedding to his fiancée, Gift, saying he was convinced that it was not God’s will for them to marry.
Ogbonna, who addressed friends and acquaintances in a message explaining the decision, said the cancellation came despite the love, friendship and shared commitment that had characterised their relationship.
According to him, he and Gift were not only lovers but had also built a strong friendship and worked closely together in their commitment to serving God and humanity.
He said their relationship had gone “very far”, but maintained that their journey would not culminate in marriage because he believed divine will had prevailed.
“If it’s God’s will for me to marry Gift today, nothing could have stopped it, come what may. But the truth is, it’s not the will of God for both of us to marry,” Ogbonna stated.
The decision effectively brought to an end plans for their proposed wedding, with Ogbonna saying he chose to speak publicly partly to thank God for the experiences, strength and lessons he had gained through the situation.
Addressing his former fiancée affectionately as “Mama Gift”, he urged her to remain strong and courageous despite the outcome.
He also wished her well and expressed confidence that she would eventually find a husband.
Ogbonna’s explanation places his decision firmly within his personal religious conviction, rather than a lack of affection or friendship between the two.
