APC Women Thrill Benin Monarch with Dance Ahead of Coronation Anniversary

Women from the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dazzled His Royal Majesty, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, with dance performances during the weekend at the Oba Palace in Benin City.

The event was part of the celebrations leading up to the Oba’s 8th Coronation Anniversary, set to be marked on October 20, 2024.

The colorful display captured the attention of onlookers and highlighted the close connection between traditional institutions and modern politics in the region.

The women sang, clapped, and cheered, expressing their unwavering affection and respect for Oba Ewuare II. The monarch, known for skilfully balancing tradition and modernity, was seen enjoying the atmosphere of celebration.

Mrs. Itohan Osahon Edokpolor, the APC women’s leader for Edo South Senatorial District, spoke on behalf of the group, expressing deep gratitude for the peaceful reign of the Oba.

She commended the monarch’s prayers, which she credited for helping to avert violence during the recent Edo State governorship election held on September 21, 2024. Despite initial fears of unrest, the election process was notably peaceful.

“We are grateful to God Almighty and our Royal father for his prayers that averted bloodshed in the Edo election,” said Edokpolor. She also called for continued support from the palace to ensure that the incoming administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo brings progress to the state.

She further prayed that Okpebholo’s tenure would respect traditional institutions, and hoped God would honor those who deserved recognition during the new administration.

In response, Mr. Frank Irabor, a prominent functionary of the Benin Palace, encouraged the women to remain steadfast in their prayers for the peace of Nigeria. He also assured them that the palace would continue to champion the welfare of Edo people, both at home and abroad.
