The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishment of Nigeria (APPMEN) has secured a strategic partnership with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) ahead of its flagship Aso APPMEN/Content Creators 2026 One-Day Conference, scheduled for September 24 in Abuja.
The partnership was initiated during a courtesy visit by the APPMEN leadership to the NHRC headquarters in Abuja, where the association’s delegation, led by its National Coordinator, Chief Precious C. Enebuse, was received by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Anthony Okechukwu Ojukwu, OFR, SAN.
The visit served to formally introduce APPMEN’s leadership to the Commission, strengthen institutional ties, and invite the NHRC to participate in the forthcoming conference, which is expected to bring together media proprietors, content creators, policymakers and key stakeholders.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Ojukwu described the engagement as “timely and strategic,” expressing confidence in the emerging alliance between both organisations.
“You can take my words to the bank—the NHRC is already partnering with APPMEN. You are going places and we are ready to work with you,” he declared.
The NHRC boss stressed the need for improved funding and stronger legislative backing to enable the Commission to expand its operations and deepen its impact nationwide. He highlighted new intervention programmes, including the Human Rights Fund, Development Fund and Human Rights Emergencies Initiative, which are designed to support victims of flooding, banditry and other humanitarian crises.
Dr. Ojukwu also appealed to corporate organisations, development partners and public-spirited Nigerians to support the Commission through donations to strengthen its human rights interventions across the country.
In his remarks, Chief Enebuse reaffirmed APPMEN’s commitment to promoting human rights through responsible journalism and digital content creation, noting that the association would deploy its nationwide media platforms to amplify the Commission’s mandate and public awareness campaigns.
The meeting ended with both organisations agreeing to formalise their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a move expected to strengthen advocacy for human rights, promote ethical media practice and advance national development.
