Auchi Polytechnic has graduated 6,600 trainees under the Federal Government’s National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s drive to produce industry-ready professionals and entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the institution’s maiden National Skills Qualification Programme graduation ceremony on Saturday, the Rector, Dr. Salisu Umar, said the graduands successfully completed six months of intensive practical training across 61 vocational and technical skill areas.

He disclosed that the beneficiaries comprise 6,101 Auchi Polytechnic students, 331 external student enrollees, 60 military personnel and 108 candidates under the Recognition of Prior Learning scheme, all of whom have qualified for the National Skills Qualification certificates issued by National Business and Technical Examinations Board.

Umar described the NSQF as a Federal Government initiative implemented by the National Board for Technical Education, aimed at equipping Nigerians with practical, industry-relevant skills to promote self-reliance, economic empowerment and global employability.

According to him, Auchi Polytechnic is the first institution in Nigeria to implement the programme, which is coordinated through its Centre for Innovation and Skill Acquisition (CISA) in collaboration with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CEDAP).

The rector noted that the mandatory programme for National Diploma and Higher National Diploma students also accommodates members of the public, urging more young Nigerians to embrace the initiative to obtain dual certification and improve their career prospects.

He said trainees were equipped in 61 skill areas, including automobile mechanics, cosmetology, computer hardware maintenance, electrical installation and other technical trades designed to meet industry demands.

Umar further announced that the Federal Ministry of Education has upgraded the institution’s skills acquisition programme to Grade A status under Technical and Vocational Education, following a comprehensive assessment that confirmed the polytechnic’s full compliance with national implementation standards.

He congratulated the graduates and challenged them to deploy their newly acquired skills to create wealth, drive industrial productivity and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic development.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, described the NSQF as a strategic Federal Government intervention designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical competence.

Ayuba stressed that the NSQ certificate earned at Auchi Polytechnic is nationally and internationally recognised, positioning graduates as skilled professionals capable of competing in the global workforce.

He said the institution remains committed to producing technologists, entrepreneurs and innovators, adding that the NSQ programme ensures graduates leave school not merely as job seekers but as job creators equipped with practical expertise.

Addressing the graduands, Ayuba said the certificates represented more than academic credentials, describing them as national proof of competence, professional attitude and practical ability.

He maintained that Nigeria’s future would be built not only on academic qualifications but on skilled professionals capable of powering industries, creating jobs and driving sustainable national development.
