Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for the 2026 CAF Awards, with Lagos confirmed as the venue for African football’s biggest annual celebration of excellence.
The Confederation of African Football announced that the prestigious ceremony will take place in Lagos, marking Nigeria’s return as host for the first time since 2015.
The event will be staged at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, one of the country’s foremost cultural venues. However, CAF is yet to unveil the official date for the awards ceremony.
The confirmation further strengthens Nigeria’s growing role in continental football administration, as the country is also scheduled to host the **48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in October. It remains unclear whether both events will be held within the same period.
The CAF Awards remain the continent’s premier football honours, recognising the outstanding performers across club and international football over the past year.
Subject to CAF’s final confirmation, the 2026 edition is expected to feature the prestigious African Player of the Year award alongside honours for the best men’s and women’s players, goalkeepers, coaches, young talents, interclub stars, clubs and national teams.
The ceremony is also expected to celebrate the best goal of the year and several other individual and team achievements that showcase excellence across African football.
Nigeria’s selection as host signals CAF’s confidence in the country’s capacity to stage world-class football events and will see Lagos welcome Africa’s top football administrators, legends, coaches and players for one of the sport’s flagship occasions.
CAF is expected to announce the official date of the ceremony and the full list of award categories in the coming months.
