A high-stakes effort to produce a consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency has ended in deadlock, just hours before the party’s primaries scheduled for Friday, May 15.
The crucial meeting, which was mediated by traditional rulers, was held on Thursday at the palace of the Emir of Keffi in Keffi, Nasarawa State. The session brought together seven aspirants vying for the party’s ticket, alongside respected royal fathers who sought to foster unity and prevent a divisive primary.
Among those present was the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, who hails from the Kokona axis of the constituency.
Other aspirants included Daniel Ogah Ogazi, also from Kokona; Mero Musa from Karu; Mohammed Dikko from Keffi; and former Executive Chairman of Karu Local Government Council, Joseph Kaura, among others.
Despite hours of deliberations and appeals for consensus, the meeting failed to produce a unified candidate, as none of the aspirants stepped down for another.
A source familiar with the meeting said the discussions were intense but inconclusive, with each aspirant maintaining strong support base and confidence ahead of the primaries.
Following the breakdown of talks, the traditional rulers offered their blessings and goodwill messages to all the aspirants, urging them to remain peaceful and united regardless of the outcome of the primary election.
The deadlock now sets the stage for a keenly contested APC primary in the constituency, as political stakeholders brace for a decisive showdown.
