Former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has secured a crushing victory in the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary for Delta North, dealing a major political blow to incumbent senator, Ned Nwoko.
Okowa overwhelmingly defeated Nwoko in the direct primary election conducted across the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District.
At the end of the exercise, Okowa polled a staggering 113,309 votes, while Nwoko managed to secure only 2,612 votes in what observers described as a total political rout.
The chairman of the party’s primary election committee, Eugene Odo, officially declared Okowa winner after the final collation of results.
The outcome sparked celebrations among Okowa’s supporters across the district, with party loyalists describing the victory as a strong endorsement of the former governor’s political influence and grassroots dominance.
However, the result has not gone down well with Nwoko’s camp.
The Director-General of the Nwoko Campaign Organisation, Ekene Kerry, rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging that the primary election process was manipulated to deny the senator an opportunity of securing re-election.
According to the campaign team, the process was allegedly hijacked and compromised against the interest of Senator Nwoko.
In Delta Central Senatorial District, incumbent senator, Ede Dafinone, also recorded a sweeping victory by defeating former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, in another dramatic APC primary contest.
Announcing the result, Secretary of the election committee, Barrister Nusa Amagbor, disclosed that Dafinone polled 116,252 votes to defeat Omo-Agege who secured 3,643 votes.
The victories have now positioned both Okowa and Dafinone as the APC’s official senatorial candidates for the 2027 general elections in Delta North and Delta Central respectively.
