A pastor has ignited widespread reactions on social media after declaring that men should never become intimate with widows unless specific traditional or spiritual rites have first been performed.
Speaking during a sermon, the cleric claimed that every widow remains spiritually connected to her deceased husband, arguing that the bond does not automatically end with death.
According to him, many cultures require special rites to sever that spiritual connection before a widow can remarry. He warned that any man who enters into an intimate relationship with a widow without those rites allegedly risks suffering spiritual consequences, including setbacks in finances, health and overall progress.
The pastor further cited a biblical passage, insisting that widows are under God’s spiritual covering and are therefore never truly “single.”
His remarks have since gone viral, triggering intense debate online. While some commenters agreed with his position, citing cultural and traditional beliefs, others rejected the claims as unbiblical, controversial and unsupported, arguing that they could stigmatise widows seeking to rebuild their lives after losing a spouse.
