The Edo State Government has announced the appointment of Friday Aghedo, popularly known as Freeman, as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa.
The appointment, effective December 2, 2024, was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Mr. Musa Ikhilor.
Aghedo, a seasoned media professional, is renowned for his expertise in strategic communication and media relations. He brings over a decade of experience to his new role, having worked closely with Deputy Governor Idahosa since 2019. During this period, he managed media communications for Idahosa’s tenure as a House of Representatives member and his subsequent journey to the deputy governorship.
Before this, Aghedo served as Press Secretary to the Chairman of Ovia South West Local Government Area, showcasing his proficiency in grassroots communication. His political communication acumen was further demonstrated in 2020 when he served as Deputy Director of New Media for the All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council. His efforts contributed significantly to the election victory of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Beyond his political engagements, Aghedo is also a successful blogger and publisher, recognized with multiple awards, including the 2021 ASMIIN Blogger of the Year Award. His blog has become a trusted platform for news and analysis, amplifying his reputation as a thought leader in Edo State’s media landscape.
A graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) with a degree in Political Science and Public Administration, Aghedo is also a family man, married with children.
Aghedo’s appointment has been met with widespread commendation, with many describing it as a strategic move to enhance the deputy governor’s media engagements.
