Edo Govt to Empower 1,500 Women Through Digital Literacy, Skills Training

The Edo State Government has unveiled plans to empower no fewer than 1,500 women across the State through an ambitious digital literacy and multifaceted empowerment programme.

Speaking in Abuja, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Chief Bisi Idaomi, disclosed that the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to bridge the digital divide and create sustainable opportunities for women in the State.

Idaomi revealed that the new scheme, designed in collaboration with key national partners including the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), will equip participants with essential digital skills to help them thrive in the modern knowledge economy.

“This programme goes beyond mere training, it is about empowering women to become active contributors to Edo’s growing digital and entrepreneurial ecosystem,” she stated. “We are building capacity that will not only uplift individual beneficiaries but also stimulate innovation and self-reliance within communities.”

She added that two additional empowerment schemes are being finalised to tackle poverty and other socio-economic challenges faced by vulnerable groups across Edo State.

A follow-up high-level meeting is scheduled for 6 November, where the Ministry will finalise the strategic frameworks and operational details of the initiatives.

The State government says the project signals the beginning of a new era in humanitarian affairs—one defined by inclusivity, resilience, and sustainable development for Edo women.
