Edo guber: Okpebholo kicks, warns against gang up against Edo Central

A notable member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in diaspora and media practitioner, Deacon Darlington Okpebholo Ray has accused figures like the national Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih and Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu of working against the interests of the Esan people.

He made the allegation while responding to a press statement made by Philip Shaibu where he was surrounded by some PDP aspirants from the Edo Central extraction.

According to the UK based online news publisher, “These Edo Central aspirants behind Shaibu are crying wolf unnecessarily, aiding Shaibu in scuttling the Edo Central governorship dream.”

He called out the embattled deputy governor for his alleged hatred for the Esan Nation, with Chief Dan Orbih adding that campaigning against Esan leadership, despite benefiting from Esan political support in the past, should not have arise at this point in time.

Another quote emphasized this sentiment: “I believe that Philip Shaibu hates Esan people with a passion, leading a journey against Esan aspirations, unfortunately joined by Chief Dan Orbih.”

He made a plea for Esan aspirants to reconsider their association with Shaibu and instead, align with Governor Obaseki and other political stakeholders who have expressed support for power shifting to Edo Central.

He said “Our brothers teaming up with Philip Shaibu now should have a rethink”.

Providing a historical context, he asserted the contributions of Edo Central in the past in favor of others.

“We gave our votes to Edo North, and they ruled for eight years. We gave our support to Edo South, and they ruled for eight years. Support should not be begged for; they know the right thing to do”, Okpebholo said.

He emphasized that the caucus of stakeholders in the PDP Edo Central have chosen a consensus candidate without trampling on the free will of others to still pick nomination tickets as enshrined in the party’s ethos.

He concluded on a strong note : “Any attempt to obstruct or disenfranchise Edo Central will have far-reaching consequences that ‘sorry’ won’t solve,” echoing the sentiment of the vigilant eyes of stakeholders remaining fixed on the unfolding political dynamics.
