As the 2024 Edo State Governorship Election approaches, the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated a “Journalists Monitoring Situation Room” at the Press Centre in Benin City.
The initiative, announced on Thursday, aims to provide real-time updates and support to journalists covering the election, which is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the NUJ Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, journalists and the general public were encouraged to stay connected via the union’s official Facebook page (EDO NUJ) and other social media platforms that will be active during the election period.
The President of the NUJ, Comrade Dr. Chris Isiguzo MFR, will oversee activities at the Situation Room, which will serve as the nerve center for monitoring events, reporting incidents, and offering updates throughout the electoral process.

In addition to coordinating election coverage, the NUJ leadership issued a statement advising journalists to prioritise their safety while in the field.
They also called on security agencies to ensure that journalists are adequately protected as they carry out their duties.
