Fresh cracks have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State as the party chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, openly criticised Osagie Ize-Iyamu over his controversial prayer style during ongoing political consultations.
Ize-Iyamu, who is seeking to represent Edo South Senatorial District in the Senate, has been touring the seven local government areas to rally APC leaders behind his ambition. During one of such outings, the cleric-turned-politician and his supporters were seen offering prayers, asking God to “scatter enemies.”
But reacting sharply, Tenebe dismissed the approach, urging the aspirant to adopt a more conciliatory tone.
“Don’t pray for them to scatter because the enemies are many. Just pray for them to come together, forgive you and vote for you. That’s the kind of prayer expected of a pastor,” Tenebe said.
The comment has further heightened tensions within the party, especially as Tenebe had earlier stirred controversy by declaring that the APC would not hand tickets to “serial losers”—a remark that drew backlash from Ize-Iyamu’s loyalists.
