The long-awaited Edo State Football Association elective Congress has finally been scheduled for the first week of October 2023.
Arising from a board meeting of the Edo State Football Association this week, the elections that has suffered several postponements will now hold on Wednesday October 4th, 2023, at the Airforce Base, by Ihama junction along Airport Road, Benin city, beginning from 9am
According to the secretary of the Edo State Football Association, Tony Owens Uhwen , all the candidates for the position of the chairman were cleared by the electoral committee, except for Mr Julius Efosa Aghohowa who didn’t show up for the screening excesise, just as all candidates for the membership positions were cleared to contest.
Meanwhile, the only candidate that will contest the position of the vice chairman was also given the green light.
Those contesting for the chairmanship position are Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, Engr Emmanuel Edekin Imiere, Johnbull Edosomwan, Egbon Victor and Benjamin Owerei, while the only candidate for the position of the vice chairman is a current board member of the FA, Kindness Ohiowele.
Seven candidates were screened to contest for membership positions, which include three current board members, they are Amadin Stephen, Charles Olubayo Faith Ojeaga. Others are Mike Uhuanmwangho, Mikhail Osakpomwan Igbinovia, Kenneth Ugbodaga, and former board member Paul Ojeisekhoba.
Delegates elected from the (18) Local councils FA, and the Statutory delegates from the Referee Association ( Edo Referee council) , Nigeria coaches Association ( Edo state chapter), Premier League representative ( Bendel Insurance Fc), Nigeria women football league ( Edo Queens Fc), Nigeria women Amateur league ( Fortress Ladies FC), Nation-wide league NLO( Rolly FC), State league ( BJ foundation FC) , are to decide the faith of the would-be Board of the Edo State Football Association.
The current Board of the Edo State Football Association led by Dr Aghedo Moses has until October 15th, 2023, to conclude all election matters and hand over to a new Board of the Apex football body in Edo State.
Addressing members of the Board ahead of the elections, Dr Aghedo Moses said he is happy with the process so far, adding that he can’t wait to hand over to the new Board of the Edo FA. He called on the various candidates to cooperate with the Electoral and Appeal committees to enable them do a good job and assured all the contestants of a level playing ground and a hitch free excesise.
