The Edo State Government has officially reinstated the Edo State Security Corps, a significant step toward strengthening the State’s security framework. The announcement was conveyed in a press release on Friday by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo.

This decision comes after the suspension of the Security Corps in September 2024, prior to the gubernatorial election. The suspension was in compliance with constitutional guidelines stipulating that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), is solely responsible for election-related security.

With the peaceful conclusion of the September 21 gubernatorial election, the State government has taken proactive measures to re-engage the Security Corps. The reinstatement underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to ensuring a robust security network for the protection of Edo State citizens.

As part of the reactivation process, all reinstated officers are directed to report to the State Corps Commander’s office or their respective zonal offices (North, Central, South). This step is aimed at ensuring a smooth operational transition and effective deployment of personnel.

In a related statement, Umar Musa Ikilor, Secretary to the Edo State Government, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, emphasising that security remains a top priority in achieving sustainable development in the state.
